The Cairo Gyro

the excitement, enjoyment, frustration, and food that comes with living and learning in egypt

FYI

We are in level 10 now. More Sarf less Nahu and Balagha. Longer more difficult exams…

In this post I mentioned wanting to see a Fennec Fox and I did happen to see one in the desert : )

I’ve been to an Egyptian wedding!

I’m studying Calligraphy at Diwan Center

    salam,

alhamdulillah for your new post!! I keep checking Sammer’s blog and there’s nothing new, and I miss hearing from y’all. I hope you’re still having a great time. May Allah make it beneficial for you both.

hehe it sounds like you actually liked the egyptian wedding :) I could have nightmares about them. ask Sammer :P I’m already planning how to save my children from having to have one :P.

wow, that really shows how different the various arabic programs are! In the toronto shari’ah program, practically allll of sarf is covered first, then nahu, then starting on balagha after all of that. I guess everyone ends up in the same place in the end..

    wassalaam,

    Wa `alaykum assalaam Asma,

Always a pleasure hearing from you! I think I’ll use this time tonight to catch up on my blog. You’re right neither of us have posted in a while we’ve just been so busy..

Yes the Egyptian wedding was a really nice experience but I’m sure it’s a whole different experience being the bride instead of just an attendee so I believe you!

Yes, Fajr Center differs from other centers because they only introduce sarf lightly in the beginning levels and then ‘really’ teach it in the high levels. I actually have to say that is a downside to the Fajr Center Method because I’ve found it to be somewhat of a disadvantage. I think it’s one of those things you should learn early on because it will help you understanding and retaining your Arabic vocabulary.

But it really depends on the teacher, because I’ve been in private classes at Fajr from the beginning, I’ve been able to have a more customized class the whole way through. So my first teacher actually did drill a lot of Sarf into my lessons early on and may Allah reward her immensely with that! Ameen

I’m sorry again about the long overdue posts, I will try to be better at it insha’Allah..

    Alia
